Craft 3 Dev Preview is Here!

We have just released the first build of the Craft 3 Dev Preview!

Like it says on the tin, this is a developer preview, not a Beta. There are plenty of bugs left to be squashed, tests to be written, new features to be developed, and documentation to be updated. Essentially this is Craft 2 running on Yii 2, with tons of code refactoring and a few new developer-facing features. If that doesn't excite you, move along :)

In the past we have always kept developer preview releases limited to a small number of plugin developers, but this time around we want to get as much feedback as possible. So Craft 3 Dev Preview is publicly available from buildwithcraft.com/3, and we've also opened up a new feedback forum for reporting bugs and offering suggestions. There's also a new #craft3 channel in Craft Slack.

It’s been a big hunk of work that took longer than we expected, but we're really happy with how it all turned out. The code is simpler and cleaner in several key areas, and it runs about twice as fast as Craft 2. We're excited to have made it this far, and we can't wait to hear what you think about it.

To get it up and running, you're going to need PHP 5.4+ and MySQL 5.5+. If you're using a locale that's not on our list of officially translated languages, you'll either need PHP's Intl extension or grab a locale data file from our GitHub repo.

If you're a plugin developer and you want to get a head start on porting your plugins to Craft 3, check out the “ Future of Plugin Dev" workshop video, which will give you a high level overview of everything that's changed. Just keep in mind that there will be additional breaking changes leading up to the Craft 3 Public Beta as we develop new features and APIs – don't say we didn't warn you!

All feedback is welcomed, so whether you are web developer or plugin developer, please check it out and let us know what you think!
